POVESTE DE CRĂCIUN - Christmas story - RACONTO DI NATALE

Christmas story

Friar clothed with the teller’s mild mantle and started.
«In that land was a man named John, with good name and respected in his region, because he valued more the soul beauty than that of the body. Almost two weeks before the Nativity, blessed Francis, as he often did, called John to him and said: “If you want to celebrate at Grecio the Nativity, go ahead and prepare what I said: I wish to represent the Baby born at Bethlehem and to see with my eyes the difficulties in which he was because of lake of necessary things for a baby, how was he putted in a manger and how he slept on hay, surrounded by animals. The faithful and devoted friend, after he listened to him, went quickly to prepare all the necessary things in the established place, according to the plain that the saint proposed to him.
Days passed with the water of the little spring that traverses their village, from which animals drink and people break their body and soul thirst. The day of joy, of happiness, but especially the thanksgivings day was nearly. There are convoked friars from different parts, bringing everybody after its possibilities, candles and torches to light that night, when it was lit in the sky with glow the Star that illuminate all days and all time. At the end arrives Francis: he sees that all is prepared according his wish, and he radiates of joy. Now it is arranging manger, it’s putting hay there and there are brought: cow, donkey – friar Martin made a short pause to catch his breath and to take the meetingpulse; seeing that all are watchful he resumed the story – in that emotional scene it was shining the evangelical simplicity, it was praised the poverty and recommended the humility. Grecio became like a new Bethlehem.
Francis wanted in that day the poor, the child beggars being saturated by the rich men, and oxen and donkeys receive a larger portion of food and hay than usually. “If I could speak with the imperator – said he – I’ll ask him to issue an general edict, that everyone who can spreads on the roads grain and all sorts of cereals, so that, in a such solemn day, birds and especially the sisters larks have food in abundance”. He couldn’t think at that without crying because of the Virgin Mary’s poverty.
Francis had a devotion to Nativity more than from any other celebration of the year. In fact, although the Lord has accomplished our salvation in other solemnities, St. Francis said that he began to save us from the day of his birth. Also he wanted at the Christmas that all Christians exulting in God, and because of his love which gave himself completely to us, being generous not only with the needy, but also with animals and birds.
Francis put on the garments of a deacon, because he was as a deacon, and sang the holy Gospel with sonorous voice: that strong and sweet voice, clear and sonorous takes away all in the desire of heaven. Then he took to people and evocated the poor newborn King through words full of tenderness and the little town of Bethlehem. Often, when he wanted to name Jesus Christ, fervent of heavenly love, called him “the Child of Bethlehem”, and that “Bethlehem” pronounced giving him a mouth-filling voice and even more affectionately tender, producing a sound like that of a sheep boy. Whenever he said “Child of Bethlehem” or “Jesus”, was running his language over his lips, as if it would retain all the taste and the sweetness of those words.
That night was bright as daylight, and was kind to the people and to animals! People came and cheered being felt in all their glee that has not experienced it before, before this mystery, the mystery of a God who becomes man. Forest resounded of their voices, and imposing cliffs spread around the holiday song’s echo.

The orphanage moved for a few moments, and the children... was there, with baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, Francis, near the crib of Greccio, hm! Even more ... near Bethlehem's manger.

Grupul de rugaciune `` PRIETENII FRATELUI IEREMIA`` / Il gruppo di preghiera ‟AMICI DI FRA GEREMIA” / The prayer group „FRIENDS OF BLESSED JEREMIAH”

L’aiuto concreto.

Peace and Good!

Dear friends, the group of prayer „Friends of Blessed Jeremiah” does not want to be an association or a non-profit organization, but wishes to be the continuation over centuries of the group established by Blessed Jeremiah while he was living his friar life in the Saint Ephrem in Naples. We, the capuchin friars, want to give life again to this group, proposing it not only to the friars but also to all the Christians of every confession, as well as to all the good willing people, like an extended brotherhood. We can all be part of this fraternity, no matter the religion, the color, the language, the culture, the age or the social condition. In order to be part of this group there is no need of a written adhesion, but only an inner adhesion.
The birthday of this group is December 25th, the day Jesus Christ was born, the day God fulfilled his promise made through Isaiah the prophet, synthetized so well in the name of the child that was to be born from the Virgin Mary: “Emanuel – God is with us”.
The reason of this group is learning to rediscover the presence and the primate of God in our life. God revealed not only his eyes but also his entire being to each of us by sending his son, Jesus. This is how God is God with me and for me, not in an egoistic way, but in a personal one. In Jesus, the child, everyone became son of the same Father, full of mercy.
Prayer, affection and concrete help are the reasons that animated Blessed Jeremiah a long time ago to give birth to this group. These are also the reasons for which we want to give birth again to this group.
The prayer occupies the first place. Prayer of gratification, praise, adoration and request. Blessed Jeremiah was a Franciscan capuchin friar, loyal disciple of saint Francis, and he knew very well that everything we have and we are is God’s gift. This is why we must always begin our prayer by being grateful to God for all the good, especially for the good we are not aware of and that is countless in our life. We will never be able to thank God for all his gifts and benevolences, but I am sure that if we thank him together, as a family, our gratefulness is greater, more beneficial for us and more agreeable to God. The praise for the creation and or everything that is beautiful, the prayer of adoration to show our love and respect towards God. And last but not least, the prayer of request, that should be done, most of all, for the needs of the brother next to me, and after that for my own needs. I invite you all to pray one for each other and together for the ones that need the most our prayer in certain days or moments. Let’s pray every day, let’s get united in prayer from every corner of the world on each Monday, the special day dedicated to blessed Jeremiah. Let’s communicate our intentions so that our prayer is stronger and may keep us united. At the Blessed Jeremiah Sanctuary from Oneşti (Romania), every first Monday of the month, we shall celebrate the holy mass for all those who want to join this group and for all our benefactors. This mass will be celebrated at 6 PM (local time) and can be seen live online on our website: www.ofmcapucini.ro
Affection. To know that God loves you, Virgin Mary loves you, the angels love you, all the saints and the other people. This might be the greatest and the most important thing. We all know that we cannot live without love and affection. We all know that the offered and received love heals us and gives us courage during the difficult moments.
Concrete help. Blessed Jeremiah served for almost 40 years as a mendicant and infirmarian. He was offering himself for the sic brothers and he was asking for help in order to procure everything was necessary for the friars and most of all for the poor. We are all invited to give from our gifts, first a little time of ours, and those who want and have the possibility, from their goods. Let’s help one each other and let’s help all those who wish to help. Blessed Jeremiah said that when we do a good thing to one of our brothers, God becomes our debtor.
Let’s thank God for the inspiration of giving birth to the “Friends of Blessed Jeremiah” Group and for all His inspirations!
